About

We Are PSTAN Private School Teachers Association Nigeria

Who Are They?

They mold all professionals, yet are served disdain and ignominy.
They research day and night, yet the title of ‘Learned’ is given to those in black.
They work like the clock, yet scarcely eat well.
They give their all, yet are disregarded both by their products (learners) and paymasters (parents).
They work like bees, yet no one sees anything wrong in the fact that they trek to and fro work.
They play a key role in nation-building, yet our leaders only use them to swell number of votes.
They are overused by their bosses and disrespected by their dependents, yet repudiated by the government.
They are paid peanuts like squirrels, yet expected to dress elegantly like bank executives.

We Are A Strong Team

A teacher gets sacked unceremoniously, sometimes just because someone didn’t like your face.

A teacher who is newly employed is not paid at the end of the first month in the name of ‘In case he/she later takes a French Leave.’ What about transport fare and feeding money?

School resumed on the 9th of the month, therefore, a teacher is paid only three-quarters of the salary for that month. Were school fees not fully paid?

A married female teacher is sacked for taking -in. Without children, there’d be no schools; without pregnancies, there’d be no children. When you sack a married teacher for being pregnant, something is either wrong with you or you’re wrong with something.

A teacher is not paid August salary. At whose mercy does the school leave this vulnerable teacher?

A teacher is paid the same salary as was paid five years ago.

A teacher is not qualified to use the school’s bus because it is meant for the paying children.

A teacher has an emergency but there’s no where to turn to, for financial support.

A teacher is working at School A but his/her children are schooling at School B because he/she can’t afford the fees.

A teacher teaches at School A which is located in a mega city, but the same teacher lives in a slum.

A teacher treks to and fro work despite teaching children whose parents all drive cars, yet no one sees anything wrong in it.

Everyone gets rewarded right here, but the teacher’s reward is in heaven __ where even the person that is saying it is not ready to go.

I’m Terhemen Aondoakaa. A Teacher, Farmer and Writer. I became a professional teacher in June, 1994.
Today, I’m well over three decades old in the teaching profession.
To say that I’ve seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as a private school teacher will be quite right.
For these and other reasons, I held talks with like-minded veteran private school teachers and the result is Private School Teachers Association, P-STAn.

Changing The Narrative.
